Pivot doors: large formats and an exclusive first impression

Carte Blanche · the entrance, with a pivot door in the facade

Sørvindu has been supplying pivot doors built for Scandinavian conditions for years, and it is a solution we have had very good experience with.

Compared with an ordinary hinged door, the pivot principle is a quite different construction. The leaf is not hinged to the side frame but turns on a vertical pivot axis built into the frame and the structure. The load is carried down into the floor and up into the structure above, which gives very good stability, large and heavy leaves included.

That makes it possible to build doors at dimensions well beyond what you would normally associate with a front door: widths over 2 metres and, in some all-glass versions, heights of more than 6 metres.

For conventional pivot doors we work mainly from Reynaers MasterLine 8. These can be made to order in a range of materials and finishes, copper, metal, timber or other exclusive claddings among them, so that the door becomes part of the architecture and at the same time makes a strong first impression.

When the glass is to dominate, we use Vitrocsa V56 Pivot among others. The very slender profiles let you combine large planes of glass with almost no visible frame and a very refined expression.

The doors can also be fitted with motorised locks, pull handles and concealed door closers, so that both the function and the detailing can be matched to the project.

The result is a door that is not merely a way in, but a clear part of the building’s architecture.
