Pocket doors

Pocket doors are a personal favourite of ours, and a solution we have worked with for years across several profile systems.

Closed, the door can pass for a fixed window. Open it, and the whole pane runs into the external or internal wall, leaving a 100 % clear opening with no leaf in sight. That gives a quite different sense of the room and a very clean transition between inside and out.

It is exactly this combination of minimalism and function that has made pocket solutions popular with architects and clients alike.

It does call for early design work. Sørvindu often has to be brought in to set the ground rules for the wall build-up, the sealing, the fixings, the drainage and the space needed, so that the building fabric and the sliding door system work as one.

We often use systems from Vitrocsa and Venuro, because their slender construction needs relatively little room inside the wall. Where the wall build-up allows for larger dimensions, a traditional lift-and-slide door can be built in as a pocket solution too, and that is the kinder option on price.

The result is a solution that nearly disappears when it is closed, and disappears altogether when it is opened.
