Inside … outside
Architecture is fond of phrases such as “the boundary between outside and inside is erased”. In practice that is usually only almost true.
On this uncompromising job we delivered the real thing, which literally erases the boundary: the same material runs through the whole opening, the same tile outside and in. The delivery is a continuous sliding door of more than 28 metres, with several motorised panels and bonded corners. But the leading part is played by the threshold detail, which gives a flow no other sliding door solution offers.
The concept is extremely demanding to carry out. Adjacent trades — the tiler, for instance — have to lay the slate and tiles almost perfectly, with only 2 mm of tolerance between outside and inside, to meet the flatness requirement. It was done here, with specially milled tiles.
